Volunteer at Vision Resources

Volunteers Make A Remarkable Difference!

Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania relies on the time and talents of more than 100 volunteers.  These individuals assist and enhance the daily activities of Vision Resources staff, who would be unable to provide excellent service to our clients without the commitment of our volunteers.

As a volunteer, you are sure to find personal satisfaction in knowing that you are making a difference in the lives of others. In addition, you may form new friendships, acquire job experience, and perhaps explore the possibility of a vision related career.

Interested in Volunteering?

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Chloe Miller at 717.238.2531 or by e-mail at cmiller@vrocp.org.  You may also complete and submit the volunteer application.

While duties and responsibilities vary, every volunteer assignment is an important and keenly appreciated service.

Volunteers assist in the following areas or departments.

Board of Directors

Vision Resources is always looking for those willing to share their time, knowledge and talents as part of the Board of Directors. The goal is to develop a fully diverse group representing the community we serve. Meetings are held every other month on a Tuesday morning at 8:00am. For more information, please contact Cheryl Cuddy, CEO at ccuddy@vrocp.org or 717-238-2531.

Social Services

Transportation or escorting of clients for appointments, groceries or personal needs.

Please note, Vision Resources must conduct a background check for volunteers in this area.

Business-to-Business

Any assistance to the staff in our production facility helps to maximize efficiency and lowers overhead costs.

Administration/Clerical/Reception

Our Volunteer Program will give you the opportunity to experience the day-to-day operation of the facility as well as serving those in the community who are visually impaired.  If your schedule if flexible, consider our “on demand” volunteer list for those unexpected tasks such as bulk mailings that require extra help but little advance notice.

Development/Special Events

Assistance at Fundraising and Awareness events helps to maximize the experience for our supporters and guests. See the event page of this website for a listing of our events.

Audio Services

The Radio Station at Vision Resources operates with one part-time staff member and about 40 volunteers that read from the Patriot News, other local publications, magazines, ads and obituaries. Volunteers may work during operating hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as well as from home for select assignments. Each volunteer’s assignment is the same each week allowing them to build a daily schedule around their volunteer commitments.

For Your Information

An added note – In this fiscal year, volunteers accounted for 7377 hours of on the job time. The Independent Sector website estimates the national value of a volunteer at $22.14 per hour. That calculates to $157,978, an increase of over $18,000 since last year, in service dollars provided by volunteers to Vision Resources. We are grateful to have such dedicated volunteers who choose to share their time and talents.
