Summer Camp

Each year, Vision Resources hosts week-long summer day camps for children and teens who are blind or have low vision. These camps expose students to developmental, sensory and social activities that encourage them to push their comfort boundaries in the context of fun.

The dates for 2018 are June 25-29.

General requirements:

Vision requirement – 20/70 in better eye with best correction. Students entering 4th through 12th grades.  Non-physically aggressive to self or others. Non-verbally abusive. Typically no mentally challenged, but campers with mild learning disabilities and/or mild mental challenges may be accepted upon review or based on previous attendance. Campers must be independent in all aspects of daily living skills and continent. Staff will provide appropriate mobility assistance including sighted guide, dining assistance, and verbal prompting when needed. Campers must self- dress (change clothes before/after swimming), self-feed, be verbal, and follow directions, rules & policies.

To explore if our summer camp is an appropriate match for your visually impaired child / student / client, please contact the camp director:  Nancy Altemose.   There is a registration fee, but no cost for the actual summer camp.

For more information about the summer camps or about becoming a camp sponsor, contact Nancy Altemose, Director of Services at prevention@vrocp.org, or call 717.238.2531.
